His Gethsemane and Ours | Deric Bartlett | 03-22-2026

This past Sunday, Pastor Deric preached from Matthew 26:36–46 in a message titled “His Gethsemane and Ours.”

Through the account of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane, we were reminded that Christ willingly entered into deep sorrow and submission to the Father’s will, preparing to accomplish the work of redemption through the cross. In His suffering, we see both the weight of what He would bear and the perfect obedience that would secure our salvation.

As Jesus prays, wrestles, and ultimately submits, we are shown that the path of following Him includes dependence on the Father, persistence in prayer, and surrender to God’s will, even in the hardest moments.

Sermon Notes:

We need a Gethsemane because the hard stuff is the good stuff (vv. 36–38)
We need a Gethsemane because it is where fellowship is deepened (v. 36ff)
We need a Gethsemane because prayer is our greatest asset (vv. 39, 42, 44)
We need a Gethsemane because it is where we learn surrender (vv. 39, 42, 44)
